30 Hour Famine Wrap Up

The 30 Hour Famine by World Vision was an opportunity that was first discovered by Peace last fall. Worldwide, 925 million people are hungry, and every day, as many as 11,000 children under age 5 die due to hunger-related causes. That’s one kid every 8 seconds. But the saddest part is that it only costs $360 to feed a child for a year. So on February 24th and 25th 9 members from Peace locked themselves in church to learn about the world wide hunger problem all while not eating for 30 straight hours.

While the weekend was tough, we pushed through while doing many activities such as:

- Multiple videos pertaining to the hunger struggle around the world provided by the organization
- Team bonding games
- Video Games
- Talking about food

After watching the videos, we had to decide which country we wanted the money to go to. After voting, we agreed that Malawi, Africa would be the best place to donate the money.

While doing the famine, we realized a few things. We realized that not only does not eating make you hungry, but it affects your energy. We knew that food fuels us, but none of us had ever experienced that feeling before. Also, all of us came to love apple juice, cranberry juice, and water more than we ever had before because juice and water were the only two things we were allowed to eat or drink.

Watching the videos was extremely impactful during the famine. Most of them were facts about hunger, or stories about a certain child stuggling with poverty and hunger in Africa. The stories of these children reminded us that while we know when it’s ending, they have no idea.
Together we raised over $1,500! And that WILL feed a village for a month in Malawi, Africa.

We are so proud of all of the youth and adults that participated, and look forward to doing it again next year! This year’s participants: Samantha, Adam, Sage, Spencer, Owen, Naomi, Clara, Christian, Jessica and Stacey.

Youth Spaghetti Supper, Feb. 11th

On Saturday, February 11th, the youth will be hosting another Spaghetti Supper for your pleasure, which promises to be even better than last year, so you won’t want to miss it.

Serving is scheduled from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Cost is $8.00 adults, $5.00 for kids 12—3. Soda is extra.

There will be a multi-item raffle with some great prizes.

Tickets will go on sale on Sunday morning beginning Feb. 2 or are available through the church office and at the door. Hope you’ll join us and support our youth.

30 Hour Famine Project

The stats are undeniable. 11,000 kids die of hunger every day. These are needless deaths that go unnoticed except by those closest to them.

Our youth group doesn’t think this should go unnoticed, so we’re going without food for 30 hours to raise money so others can eat.

Here’s how you can help:
1. Pray. Ask God to bless our students as they overcome hunger.
2. Volunteer. Come join us during our Famine Weekend.
3. Give. Just $30 can help feed and care for a child for a month.

Donate on our group webpage at suport.worldvision.org/goto/peaceumc or give us a check made out to World Vision. Every donation is tax-deductible!

Our Famine dates: February 25 & 26
Our goal: To raise $1000.
Contact: email cjdennik@yahoo.com

From 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25th through Sunday morning the team will not eat. If you are interested in participating the church office has sponsor packs.

Help our youth make a difference by supporting their Famine effort.
